Longest single flight was probably when I was being flown out to the Philippines in 82, and we went from Anchorage, Alaska (Elmendorf AFB) to Okinawa, Japan on the second leg of the trip (first leg was Oakland to Elmendorf, and 3rd leg was Okinawa to Clark AFB in the Philippines). That leg was probably ~12 hours long, give or take an hour. Total time from leaving Oakland, CA to ending up at Clark AFB followed closely by a bus ride to Subic Naval Base, was ~24 hours. And I've never been able to sleep on an airplane! Needless to say, I was rather jet-lagged & just bone tired when we got to Subic! :Q
The longest total flight was likely in 94, when I flew from Guam (one time zone east of the Philippines) to Norfolk, VA, with stops in Hawaii, LA & Chicago, then had to drive 2 hours to northern Virginia to partake in a 2 week training class. Luckily I noticed that my work was going to fly me into Virginia, arriving on a Sunday afternoon, and threw a fit..... got 'em to move the flight back a day, so I wouldn't sleep thru the first day of class!! I took vacation stops a few times on the way back (sister in NY, parents wintering in AZ, and other sister in Hawaii), so that wasn't as bad.
I think my Mom flew from Chicago to Hawaii, non-stop, and said that flight lasted something like 13 hours. Dang, talk about ready to get off a plane! :disgust:
