What is the logic for not allowing pets for sale on Craigslist?

Leros

Lifer
I noticed that pets of any kind are not allowed to be listed on Craigslist. No dogs, no cats, no fish, nothing. What is the logic behind that?

Well people still do it but they say you are being charged for the equipment that comes with them.

To many people were having sex or cooking said animals.

Sell AT members then, some could use getting laid. 😉 Holy shit I just got posted above TWO people.

I believe it is because there is a lot of regulations that significantly change from state to state. I know in PA you couldn't buy turtles in any in my state for a while.

Old article from 2005.

Terrible logic, although I agree that backyard breeders aren't the best thing.

I highly doubt it stopped backyard breeders one bit though. And, it made it more difficult for people to find homes for their dogs that they could no longer keep.

Rehoming for a small adoption fee is ok but the selling of pets is not allowed. As the article states, Craigslist creates an easy medium for backyard breeders, resellers(folks get pets for free then turn around to sell them for a profit) to sell pets. Thankfully with Craiglist flag system, many of these ads are flagged off quickly.

All the breeders seem to go to recycler.com instead anyways. Regardless of what those animal rights/shelter/rescue people did, they still ridicule anyone who posts on there trying to rehome a pet. They flag anything and pretty much everything they don't like. Hell, they've even dedicated separate sections of craigslist, to post up things like, "Ew, it's a snake, flag it!" etc.

I wouldn't be surprised if there were more thieves out there just to steal high $$$ dogs.

@ SupaDupaPan, Boys Before Flowers is DONE! I have 37.8gb of it in my HDD 😀

Really? I got my dog from a post on Craigslist.

You can't "sell" them. You can put them up for adoption with a small re-homing fee.

Yes, mine was an adoption, but it seems like a technicality easily gotten around.

Craigslist Pet section is a pretty sad place. Things I see too often:

1. I got a new puppy but my landlord won't allow him - moran didn't think about getting permission first
2. I got a new puppy and he doesn't like my current old dog/cat, I'm need to rehome my old dog/cat
3. I need to rehome my best friend of ten years b/c my bf/gf is allergic to him/her
4. People asking for money b/c they can't afford to take their pet to the vet
5. People wanting a free dog/cat then a week later making-up some story on why they can't keep it and they ask for a $500 adoption fee
6. I need a free dog/cat ASAP for my son's/daughter's birthday. Doesn't matter what breed, etc...
7. I'm pregnant and must get rid of dog/cat.
8. I'm moving tomorrow where they don't allow pets, must get rid of pet by tonight
