Yes it DOES give me the right. If i get away with murder how is that in anyways a problem. Like I said, Sure it may not be for the greater good. BUT knowing the consequences ONE should not be hindered simply by what they're told to do, they should be the sole decider in their decision. NOW whether someone else decides to STOP you is another matter.

IT IS ALWAYS YOU vs ALL OTHERS

For all of you thinking the moral high ground falls on the side of doing whatever you feel like when it comes to downloading pirated software. It gets a lot harder to justify screwing game companies whenever the people you're really hurting are the little guys that work for them.

The only problem with those numbers is, how did they come up with them? Assumed every pirated download would of been a sale?

But I agree with what you said, I worked in the game industry for a few years and I know the studio that I worked for on a game out lost out on an bonus due to piracy (we were less then 70k sales from meeting a bonus payout and the game had heavy piracy). I know a large majority of pirated copies do not equal lost sales, but a small percentage does (though what % is anyones guess). A lot of friends I have in the game industry have had similar things happen like I have over the course of their careers, and like me many are or have left it and moved into industries that use the same skill sets but things are much more stable (I went into military sim work).

Piracy absolutely blows for the developers when they stand to make bonus' for hitting sales numbers to possibly not even having a job anymore cause the game didn't hit projected numbers. Most all devs I know all understand that most pirated copies wouldn't have been a sale, but that small percent that would have can make or break it for them.

I know most people just want to "stick it" to the man, which in most cases is the publishers, but they don't think how that trickles down to the developer who is the one who ends up paying the price 9 out of 10 times. Which reminds me, so many people either use the words publisher and developer in place of one another or they simply do not know which is which but you need to stop blaming the DEVELOPER for most problems you have with game. I can not recall a single dev I met that wanted DRM attach to their game, yet it isn't up to us, but rather the people upstairs. Yeah, that's right, we understand that DRM not effective and usually causes problems for the actual customer and not the thief.

I'll just stop there cause I can go on about a lot of stuff devs get the yelled at for yet we have our hands tied. At the end of the day, while we'd fight the good fight, we can't push the issue to hard cause this is our paycheck we depend on. Not to say that devs are totally innocent but they get way more of the gamers rage then they should.
