3/4... I got a higher grade insinkerator.

EDIT: Make sure to get one that has good sound insulation like most are suggesting. Mine is barely audible when on and eats pretty much anything I put down there.

Many manufacturers make 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, 1 hp garbage disposals. The main difference in prices is the quality of sound insulation and of course matching hp to your needs. A small apartment dweller who doesn't do much cooking can get away with a 1/4 hp unit. A large family should opt for a 3/4 hp unit. Beyond that or if you have septic tank concerns, go for the 1 hp disposal and a macerator pump.

That was exactly what I was thinking... I was like, well, my garbage disposal only has 23 hp, but it has 240 mp with a staff that grants half cast time and +5 charisma. That's what I get for buying a house off a druid.

I remember my grandpa had a 1 HP in one of his houses. That thing would torque the house off its foundation. He'd put big chicken bones and things down it daily, and it would just eat them up with no issues.

I've used 1/4 HP units in apartments without any issues, but I'm careful about what I put down.

Large peices should not be put in the drain no matter how strong your disposal is.

A lot of that stuff you grind up sticks to your pipes and over time can clog them. I only use the GD when I am washing dishs and some very small peices go down.

yeah, get a big powerful one. its something thats supposed to last..u dont want yours clogging up and breaking all of a sudden. might as well shell in some extra bux for a better one now

Imagine walking to the sink with a plate for of scraps you dont have to scrape off in the trash can. Then imagine not having to dig little pieces of food out of the strainer in your sink. Next imagine not having the odor of rotten food in July in your trash can.


That and it cool to drop a piece of silverware in once a month or so for kicks.

Once you have one and use it everyday you'll never see how you lived without.

Especially as pointed out if it is powerful and quiet.

5HP does fine for femurs.
