I need to upgrade my wife's computer. She only use it for internet and spreadsheet.
Currently it is using PII 266 with 512MB PC133 RAM.
It is getting sluggish now, so I'm thinking of reinstalling and maybe upgrade the CPU a bit.
I've seen PII 450 for about $20 on ebay, so it is pretty cheap.
I've heard that you can even use Celeron with slot 1 converter on this chipset.
Any idea ?

current system
PII266 w/ Intel 440LX (bought from Dell)
512MB RAM PC133
WIN2K Pro
Maxtor 30GB
SB!Live

Celeron 533 PPGA (not 533A FC-PGA) and a Slocket. I've done this upgrade a few times and it works well. If you need a Slocket, send me a PM. I have a couple kicking around.

Yep ,I have an Aopen AX6LC with the same limits ,Celeron 533 (not A)
Though you do need the bios support for the Celerons ,the above mbrd locked up at post before the bios update ,I had to borrow a PII to flash the bios

Inccidently this Aopen mbrd supports down to 1.3v! ,what are its chances of running a FCPGA Celeron bearing in mind there is no bios update for them?

Btw that PII 450 will be no good to you ,it runs on a 100MHz FSB (4.5x100) ,LX chipsets only officially do 66MHz ,though some will also do 68,75 & 83MHz.

While I do not believe it... I seen the compatabilities list for the Slot-T adapter and got a Tualitin celeron to run @ 933MHz on a LX mobo...
14 * 66MHz FSB.

Interestingly upgradeware say not to use the adapter on LX mbrds! ,I guess most can't handle the voltage?
