What is the best value? What is the no-hold-barred champion (cost no object)? Not looking for anything bigger than 21"

fixed for ya ;)
In the $600 price range (newegg has lower I believe) the NEC is king. Here's why:
?Zero ghosting
?Very high actuall contrast, and improved contrast b/c of opticlear coating
?TV tuner and tons of inputs
?S-IPS panel, 8 bit, excellent color reproduction.
?Looks cool
If you're looking for something cheaper, check out the LG L204WT. I have the scaled down L194WT (19" WS) and it too has no ghosting, though I can't seem to find the right brightness/ contrast level. It comes default very bright. Love the monitor though.

Well I didn't say definitely since maybe he'd prefer a nice CRT and I'm sure there are some nuts LCDs out there in the "cost no object" category that have better color reproduction and such (not sure on response for those though).

I'd wait for the 100mhz LCD monitors.
If you cant wait, LCDTV's are dropping in prices like crazy! 37" LCDTV for $799CAD (~$580USD?)

I worship my 2405FPW. No ghosting I've ever seen in any game, 1080P input, the only thing it doesn't do is 480/720p without stretching to fill the picture.

I would have to agree. I have a 32 inch Westinghouse 720P and I love gaming on it :p especially for the price I got it at during the best buy black friday. Seriously, how many 16 year olds have a 32 inch HDTV running pc games at 1366 by 768, whats even better is when you send the picture through as a 1080i signal over HDMI and the lcd for some reason still looks great at 1600 by 1080 :p

Well the Westinghouse but since you're not interested in anything bigger than 21" I'd say the 2007FP or 2007WFP. Both are great monitors; however, you may have a tad bit of a problem if your eyes are sensitive to certain LCD panels. It's the luck of the draw if you get an PVA or S-IPS panel.

Actually, not really. For entertainment the NEC would likely beat all the other photo editing monitors due to the high-contrast coating. It is also not far from those LCDs in post-calibration color accuracy. With the amount of ghosting the photo editing LCDs have, you can forget about gaming on them as well.

The NEC LCD2690UXi recently came out, which has an OK response time with a higher resolution than the 20WMGX2. Many will still prefer the 20WMGX2's overall screen quality, though. The 2690 has a higher gamut, which means colors won't be as accurate for conventional media. You really need to be a photo editor who knows what he's doing to take advantage of the higher gamut without having color accuracy problems.

Yeah, I figured that more color accurate displays would have tradeoffs in other respects. Based on prototypes of different technologies and such, I figured if cost was really no object, there may be a way to somehow get an LCD that excels in both areas (even if it's not really a readily available mainstream product... in consumer or industrial markets).

I put the "maybe" in there just because I don't know about everything that's out there.

Ok...so what are these "100 MHz" monitors that I should be waiting for...and why should I wait for them? I am only interested in an LCD. Also, as I am not 16, but a 35 y/o physician, I have a decent amount of money to blow on a nice monitor. Its all about the GAMEZ!!!

PS - and what is this ACER Ferrari thing? I am intrigued....

I AM 16 and am a swim teacher. Are you insulting us 16 year olds? I just "blew" $1100 on a rig (actually it was the 2nd best investment of my short life) and bought a $250 monitor by LG.

The acer ferrari is overpriced, but will compliment the looks of your real ferrari nicely. ;)
Get something else. Please.

EDIT: What's your exact budget?
