I think the circus that is the G.O.P. presidential playing field and Trump's surge in popularity is evidence that the G.O.P (as we know it) is throwing it's final death flops. Nobody is going to come out of the G.O.P. primaries looking good and will probably have so much dirt on them that they'll never stand a chance with the general electorate which they have already distanced themselves from.
What could they possibly do at this point to to make themselves viable for the presidency? They would need to come much closer to the middle to even stand a chance and by doing that they would alienate themselves from their base. Someone like Rand Paul could attract young voters but his association with the fringe right (Alex Jones.... yeah) would destroy his chances at winning a general election. Bush? lol. He'll probably get the nomination but he's not winning the general election. Trump? Well he had better hope he doesn't make it too far because I guarantee that man has more than a few skeletons in his closet. Infact it's probably more like a crypt.
The electoral college is also very much slanted in favor of democrats and is poised to remain that way in the foreseeable future. As far as toss up states go. All a democrat needs is Ohio and virtually any other toss up state and victory is theirs. As for mid term elections the G.O.P. owes much of their success to gerrymandering.
How would the G.O.P turn this around? Can they; or will a new party emerge?
