Ok I am in the process of updating my year old PC and I currently have an AMD Athlon 500 mhz and a AMD Irongate 200 mhz EV6 Motherboard which is an ATX IR1 Mainboard.

I was just wondering what is the fastest processor I can slap into my motherboard. I heard that the 800, 850, 900, and 950 may work, but I need some advice on what is the highest mhz my motherboard can handle.

Thanks!

I don't see why the manufacturer wouldn't have that information on their site, but unless you've specified a model number I dont' recognize, your giving us that information might help a little bit.

I believe you could go up to a gig with the right bios.

I think it may be a Microstar because it also gives me this info:

MODEL #: MS-6167
PART #: YM6167

I think i may go with the 900 mhz processor I found at Pricewatch.

Do you think that would be a smart buy?

Ok heres the info, best as I recall. Irongate Boards should run Slot A TBIRDS without problems, but the MSI 7167 had some issues. Eventually MSI issued a BIOS fix that allows TBIRDS. Before MSI issued the BIOS people had success using the BIOS from a SOYO board.

Here is most likely the fastest CPU you will be able to run (I believe)
