final cut pro is over-rated. You can get better products for less. Check out dv.com.

Adobe Premiere is a good, powerful video editing program
I've also heard some good things about Avid products but never used it myself

For windows either Vegas Video or Avid ExpressDV. Of course if you are working w/something other than DV then it's gonna start getting pricey. Entry level Avid Express is ~$40,000 or so. ;)

I have a couple friends that do video production and they stand adamantly by Final Cut Pro.

that's what happens when you have a mac and your options are limited. But what a decent limitation it is. FCP is good. But there are plenty of windows dv programs that outdo it for much less. IIRC, FCP came with hardware for a while. But the windows verions were much faster. I fogrot the vendor of the card. Not sure if it was ICE.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm a bit rustic at this video thing, because it has been over 10 years since I played around with video editing.

I don't need anything fancy, just something that can capture video frame by frame & then splice with sound for traditional line drawing cell animation.

DV price seemed to be at a extreamly afordable price, but is it workable?

And, is there a video capture card that come with a relatively good editing app with frame by frame capture function?

I believe the version of Pinnacle for around $300 comes with Adobe which should be all you need. It includes a capture card. Link.

I believe Premiere has an "animation" setting (or something) that does what you are describing.

Avid is the industy standard for professional video editing.

But programs have come out that are very worthy such as Vegas Video, Pinnacle's and Ulead's $400 product.

My vote is for Vegas Video. Great price for the power it affords. It EASY to learn compared to others and has real-time rendering which is a blessing.

..................it seems though that your needs are very basic so these programs are overkill for you. Any $40 product will do for your needs. Next level is Vegas, which is a serious enthusiast's tool.
