What is the difference between centrino duo and core 2 duo?

Hi,

I?m looking to buy a laptop which has core 2 duo. All I can see is centrino duo.

Is that core 2 duo? eg. a dell laptop processor specs:

Intel® Centrino TM Duo Mobile Technology with Intel® Core TM Duo Processor T2050 (1.60GHz 2MB L2 Cache 533Mhz FSB)

And another:

Intel® Centrino® Duo Mobile Technology with Intel® CoreTM 2 Duo Processor T5500 (1.66GHz 2MB L2 Cache 667Mhz FSB)

Note that the second one says core 2 duo as opposed to core duo.

So what I am asking is that are any of those processors the same as a desktop core 2 duo processor?

Core Duo and Core 2 Duo are 2 different generations of intel CPUs. Laptops use different parts than desktops but Core 2 Duo will offer similar performance to the desktop. Core (1) Duo is up to 20% slower.

Centrino = package of either processor, plus an intel chipset and wireless card.

so is it right to say that this laptop is a core 2 duo laptop and its processor is a core 2 duo processor (same as a desktop core 2 duo processor)?

Yes, that is a core 2, though the laptop version (different packaging).

I assume you don't care about gaming since intel GMA graphics are utterly useless for 3D and laptop graphics usually are not upgradeable.

I lol'ed at the Core (1) Duo portion of your comment.

Makes even less sense than Core 2 Solo.
