What is the Correct CPU Temp? Noob in need

sorry for this question..i've researched it quite a bit and I'm not sure what to believe..

i'm trying to determine the accurate temperature for my e6850 at idle and under load (orthos)..i'm running speed fan, core temp, right mark. All of them report around 19-21C at idle and ~45C at load (Mind you I haven't put the components inside the case and I'm in an air conditioned room).

I'm not sure if this is correct because if I quickly reboot the machine and enter bios, bios reads the idle temp around 30-34C. I started reading about this 15C discrepancy in some of these programs and made me wonder if I'm having that issue here as well. If so, does that mean my true load temps are really 45+15C = 60C? That seems a bit high since I haven't even started to overclock this beast.

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

thx!

It seems that there is a need for a revision in Core-temperature reading applications for the new G0 stepping b/c they all read either ambient or sub-ambient temperatures on the cores, which is impossible...

Download Coretemp and record the Tjunction temperature (85C or 100C). Maximum safe temperature under load is 20 to 25C below Tjunction.

just lapped my hsf (ultra 120)..readings dropped to 13-14C idle and 27-29C orthos load in all 3 programs....now granted the lap job looked nice, this seems just a little too unreal...

Its is really hard to get anything that is super accurate by just using software....
If you are getting your readings from software you need to at the very least use 2 or 3 software programs and if 2 of them match you can bet that its pretty close to being correct!!

Good Luck!!

This thread http://www.xtremesystems.org/f...08&highlight=intel+tat contains very good info regarding CPU temperature readings. The consensus is that Core Temp 0.95 (with the option "Show Delta to TJunction temp" selected) displays the correct Intel Core2 CPU temperature until throttling occurs. Since nobody can determine exactly what the throttling temperature is (It varies from chip to chip and is not directly readable), the exact CPU temperature is not known.

I'm having the same problems. I have a E6750 not overclocked ATM. I just download Coretemp 0.95 and my temps are 19C and 21C at idle. Under load, they are 30-33ish C. These temps were the same with Speedfan and Rightmark.

If i switch to "delta to TJunction temp" my temps are 66C and 59C to TJunction, idle. If I understand, these are suppose to be the right temps? They can't be the right temperatures.

In BIOS, my core temp is 30ish with a system temp of 38ish. I have a tuniq tower 120 and an Antec P180.

Looks right to me. Core Temp is assuming a TJunction of 85C. 66C to TJunction gives you 19C (85 - 66), and 59C to TJunction gives you 21C. However, the key question is "Does your CPU has a TJunction of 85C?" Nobody knows and this parameter is not recorded in any registry. The information regarding a TJunction of 85 C versus 100 C is not entirely correct. TJunction is a parameter unique to each CPU.

According to the thread that I link earlier, under load, if you keep the temperature to TJunction > 30, you will have ample margin. 30-33ish C correspond to 52-55 C to TJunction, no problem at all.

On the other hand, the BIOS reads off a thermal diode. This reading is not accurate because the temperature to voltage relationship is not properly calibrated.
