hahaha, got word back from the seller telling me that the fact the laptop included "over a grand" worth of software titles makes up for the fact that he didn't disclose the physical damage.

Then he has the balls to tell me to relist it or contact the next highest bidder on his auction.

Dispute it. It sounds like he intentionally hid the damage, and he's a pretty crappy seller. He deserves a negative no question.
 
I voted 6/10 assuming that everything else was mint/perfect. Now that I think about it, it should be 4/10.. It's not like you can easily replace those parts.

Yea, the guy is a piece of work. Here is his email to me:

Mike, the value of my auction was not in the hardware, it was in the software, there is over a grand worth of software installed on that machine.

I live in the suburbs of Austin Texas in a 4000 sf one year old house with a 2005 Excursion and 2005 Ford Lariat that I paid both for in full with cash. Pictures of me and my family can be found at www.removed.com and www.removed.com

In my life I've never tried to take anybody for couple a bucks, and would never consider taking someone for a couple of hundred.

That laptop is at least three years old. It's an old model number for Sony, in today's market of PC's and laptops, even for four hundred you could get a brand new one to today's standards, or at least yesterday's.

I put forth a public auction and there were many bids on that item. With over X positive feedback to your credit, you are no chump in the workings of ebay either, and I am an over X myself.

To me a 10 out of 10 is about a 2000 dollar laptop bought at Fry's today.

I don't know what your standards are buying an older laptop, but I'm not sure complaining to me the difference of cosmetic opinion is the right thing to do.

Why not relist it on ebay if you are unsatisfied?

Or contact the next low bidder of our auction?

I had listing fees, closing fees, shipping fees, and these sorts of things are not refundable, and you may even sell it at a profit? Who knows?

Once again RossMAN is right. Sony makes terrible computers. They focus on appearance, pretending to be the apple of the PC world, but forget that Apple makes GOOD computers for $$, not just expensive plastic crap.

just under $200, which would have been fine if it had no software as long as it was cosmetically sound. He installed XP Pro and Office Pro and some other useless titles. Useless without keys.

Woah woah woah... so this software was listed in the auction as included with the laptop? But he did not include the licenses/keys? Well right there is grounds for getting your money back.

I just wanted the laptop. I pretty much didn't care what came on the hard drive. I needed the thing to look decent though. He hasn't responded to my dispute yet. I shipped the lappy back to him today. Now I've wasted 2 weeks and im out another $19.
 
Seller finally responded to the paypal dispute. He stands by his whole "I threw in a bunch of software you can't even really use" angle.

Doesn't sound like he is going to willingly give me a refund.
 
i voted 4/10 but now that i think about it, if i knew that it had that kind of damage i would never buy it, so 0/10
 
Well, I opened a paypal dispute and sent the laptop back. The seller now filed an unpaid item dispute with ebay? 😕

Also said he will re-send the laptop back to me and refuse a refund.

Escilated my claim from a dispute to a claim.

Yep. This is probably my worst experience with an ebayer ever. And he has a 98.5% positive feedback rating with almost a 1000 positives with 0 negatives within the last 12 months. I just don't get it.

Looks like the seller is holding his ground and its going to be a battle. Hopefully paypal will side with me. I really can't see why they wouldn't. What a waste of time, energy, and money.
