What is the cheapest way to get MP3's playing on a receiver with RCA inputs?

I am adding a receiver to my workshop since i am spending more and more time out there.

I don't want to bring my CD's into that workarea and I am sure a regular CD player will foul due to dust.

What's the method to get mp3's to play via RCA inputs CHEAP now?

Yeah, I've done it with numerous players and receivers without issue. Maybe someone else can chime in as for any issue sending an amplified headphone output into a receiver's analog input, but it always worked fine when I did it.

I've never had a serious issue mixing headphone and line-level (don't use the phono input though).

You may have to turn down the volume on the MP3 player if you get some crackling (clipping) coming through, but that's about it.

Here's what I have in my garage. Works great as stand alone or you can connect it to a receiver and speakers.


It's a linksys Wireless B Media Link.

Model says WML11B or WMLS11B

Found a link for a cheaper refurbished one and have heard decent reviews for the retailer. Might want to search for some reviews.

Is there a Wireless G version like that? My workshop is within range, but running B will slow down the rest of my network.

all wireless-N though...and nothing like the wireless B setup above. All those have integrated speakers/amps. None are purely a music relay/controller AFAIK. I just ordered the monoprice 3.5MM to RCA adapter. I have a Creative Zen I can use for now or a laptop.

just make sure you turn the volume down on the mp3 player and up on the receiver otherwise you are sure to get some clipping

same thing with Winamp on a laptop? using the headphone out to RCA in.

No, you shouldn't get any clipping like that.

I always in fact have my Windows volume at max, and control speaker volume on my reciever externally
