What is the big to-do about MySpace.com?

I joined MySpace.com and am thoroughly unimpressed. First, they must pay people to create gaudy and highly contrasting profiles that are difficult if not painful to read, with more than one song playing simultanenously. But that isn't my real complaint.

Pages habitually fail to load, or take forever to load, then the ad servers cause the page to blank out and read 'cannot find server' after I've waited 20 seconds for it to load. Its really horrible, exponentially worse than every free forum or community I've experienced to date (and that includes the 28Kb dial-up modem days).

Its not my computer or internet connection (3Mbit cable). I don't think MySpace can sustain this model of serving many many TB per day in bandwidth through advertising revenue.

Its mostly for kids.

Which is why a lot of pedos hang out there *looks at ATOT with shifty eyes*

I click on your link and the top header loads including the ad banner but nothing else, then I wait for 10 full seconds, and the page goes 'cannot find server'. I hit refresh, same thing happens. But if I click Back then Forward, it loads right away. This is fairly typical of about 50% of the pages/links I click on MySpace.

I don't have this problem anywhere else, so it must be that MySpace servers are consistently loaded to the proverbial hilt.

Its nice that the ad banners always load reliably, though.

I rarely have any issues other than it being slow.

Nearly a year ago I moved halfway across the country, and I use myspace on occasion as an easy way to stay in touch with my brother and some friends back home. Also my ten year high school reunion is coming up (which I will not attend) and I have used myspace just to see what's up with many of my former classmates.

Sure, a vast majority of the members are whiney emo brats but there are some very practical and sane users out there.

Same.

I also found several friends that I haven't seen in years -- one joined the Air Force and is now in Hawaii...others that have moved elsewhere, etc. It's not all bad. :)

I'm not seein the myspace appeal.
I have Yahoo mail which seems to work about 100 billion fifty million times better then the myspace messages I send.

People I know in college migrated from livejournal to myspace. I cba; for my purposes, LJ suits me just fine. I haven't bothered to customize the interface or layout, and I can't see myself wasting time to do so. Just gimme a template to post the occasional complaint or rant on and I'm just peachy.

Yeah, but the difference between ATOT and LJ is that if I post something on LJ, I don't have to scroll through 50+ responses saying either "get a life emo boy" and "I THINK IT WAS ROCK SALT!!"

It's the emo anthem by that whiny band, can't think of the name at the moment, though.
