I'm no expert in this field and I would like to know everyone's opinion. I don't really care about size, assuming everything in this price-range is above 40 inches. Thanks in advance.

I got the Sony 57" KP-57WS500 ... back in February for $1800 thru an employee's discount... but they should be no more than $2100 now and there's a $200 rebate with it right now too.

I couldn't be happier with it... also has 2 component inputs in the back...

Calibrations can be done on all TVs... including tubes.
As for the best widescreen HDTV look at the Hitachi xxSWX20B series. Myself and a couple other members here have these and love them. I bought mine about 8 months ago after researching for a while. An article in a magazine that said "The Hitachi 51SWX20B is the best rear projection TV I've reviewed to date" sealed the deal for me. Went down to Circuitcity, got a $3K credit card, and bought the TV w/12 month no interest financing. I'll be done paying for that one day... ;)

I don't have any pics of my setup... but I believe Amused has posted some pics of his xxSWX20B setup in the past if you search for it.
Circuit City link.

Nice site, thanks.

One thing that I have noticed about projection tv's that I don't like is the glass that covers the screen. The ONLY brand that I have seen that doesn't have a glare coming off the glass is Panasonic, but I'm very leary about getting a Panasonic projection HDTV. I'd prefer a Toshiba or Mitsubishi, but I don't know if I'd be able to deal with the light and glares coming off of the glass.

Well you have to remember that ideally for any TV viewing you'd like a darkened room. The bright lights in stores like Circuit City make it hard to tell what the TV will really look like once you get it home. Plus they aren't properly calibrated. Over the weekend I had my sister make me a couple vinyl curtains to hang in the rooms with my TV and computer... really makes a difference since I now have no glare.
Another good site to visit is The Spot.

Well, it's not glass...it's a plastic screen designed to protect the actual screen from damage. I removed mine about 6 mos. after having my Mitsubishi and the PQ is improved. And, there's no more glare either.

Best widescreen HD tv under 3000?

Mits x411, Hitachi swx line - with some work and calibration they can look gorgeous.
