What is the best way to study a set of terms?

Like a word and something that goes with it, kinda like a vocab word and its definition.

I have to memorize terms for history and we have quizzes on them every Tuesday. There are about fifteen to twenty terms and we are quizzed on five.

Any tips or pointers? The obvious is to read the term and then what it is.

But any other pointers?
