Hey folks,

what is the best video player as far as containing the most codecs and format support??? I have tried media player 9 but really dont care for it and i find that quicktime cant play all of my files.

thnaks for the help 🙂

i dont think there are any player that contains most codecs and format (cuz some codes must be installed separately and some file-formats are specific to some player) .
For me.. I install WMP9 and still play all my files with WMP6.4

Okay good point, so where might one get the codecs.... rather, is trhere one player that I can kinda standardize on, then have a site that i can get and load all kinds of codecs for it from????

I would just search for the specific codecs out there and then download and install them.
Such as the Nimo Codec, or the DivX Codec. Google will find them easily.

I use Media player 6.4 (all newer versions are junk) with the following codecs installed:

[*] Mpeg2
[*] ogg
[*] smr
[*] ks
[*] xvid
[*] divx 5.0
[*] divx 3.0

Seems to play everything ok 🙂
Also, the order seems to matter and I believe this order works for me (been a while since I've reformatted)

are these codecs free?????? can you point me to a site with some of them???? I went out on google and youre right there are tons of sites ..... help please

The codecs are usually free cause they're just software to make the movies or other media play, but you can get players that will play them too.
For the DivX codec, I would try out DivX's Sitel and go download the DivX codec.
Install that which will give you the latest 5.0.5, and if you want install the player 2.1, but you don't have to, there's an option in the install of the codec.

Any site that has the Nimo codec or any of a bunch others will be good. I had a problem installing the latest build 9 so I installed the DivX codec cause I had
a couple of demos that would not play unless I got the latest codec (Soul Calibur 2 movie and a Half Life 2 movie I believe). The Nimo codec is just a pack of diff
codecs that a guy called Nimo created and it allows you to install a bunch, or not.

I use Cyberlink's PowerDVD to playback video files. But if that player mentioned above will playback Quicktime and Real media as well, I may try that.
