what is the best video card $200 to $300 price range?

i would like an opinion on what is the best video card $200 to $300 price range and also the best sound card in the same rice range? Thanks

If you waited a month or so the GF2 Ultra might drop down in price a lot with the release of the Geforce3 (modestly priced at $600). Kind of sucks getting a video card now as all the next generation ones are right around the corner (spring, early summer?) but it's always like that and the next gen cards will all probably be a lot of $$$.

I think the Radeon is the best overall. The win2k performance, as shown by Anand's recent article is quite bad but hopefully ATI will get some new, better drivers out. The Radeon has better 2d quality, better colors IMO, nice tv-out, capture features, and is cheaper. It is almost as fast as the GF2 but the GF2 has the edge in most resolutions.

Sound card... hmm probably the Philips AcousticEdge. Heard lots about it. Wish I could get one instead of this SB Live!

Yeah, you might want to wait a little bit longer. I think when the GeForce 3 comes out the GeForce2 Ultra will drop down into your price range.

hocome i only see the post that i posted and not any of the replys.....it ssys 4 replys and 1 was my original thread and the other was a follow up but i subscribed to this thread and i was emailed that 3 people responded , however only my thread and reply are showing......

figures right after i ask why i the replys werent showing up they showup...thanks for the advice/recomendations.......i too want to get rid of my SB live value (in my other computer and the sbpci512 in this one) i was looking at going with the hercules game theatre xp. how does the xp compare to the Sbliveplatnium and the phillips......hey thanks for responding everybody

A GF2 GTS is an excellent video card and they usually cost around ~$170. Just wait for a few more days because it's likely the GF2 Ultra will drop in price when the GF3 is released.

I say you get TWO 64 MB Radeons...=) But yeah, wait a little, the Geforce 3 *should* come out and drive all prices even lower.

$600 for g2 ultra? I dont know where you are shopping, but you can get the fastest G2 ultra(the WinFast LeadTek) for about $340. OEM of course...But ya, I would wait for the Geforce3's to come out before you get a G2. The Cheapest G3 is supposed to be like $550, and thats probably retail box, so for OEM think about around same price as a G2 Ultra is right now. By the way, if anyone is curious or clueless about which G2 cards are the best, check out anandtech reviews and sharkyextreme.com. They have some great benchmarks. Shows Leadtek Winfast is fastest G2 in all High resolutions. Not to mention one of the cheapest.

Heh, First sentence was my bad, I misread. But people do sell them for about $600 same places. I hope nobody acctuly pays that price.
