Depends... Bridgestone Blizzak are apparently the best winter snow tires evAr (from my family who lives in Calgary).

Dunlop and Michelin are the only two players in motorcycle tires.

It's a far too general question; you need to ask which manufacturer makes the best tires for a specific purpose, as Michelin, Bridgestone, Goodyear, and Pirelli all make excellent tires. (They also make mediocre tires as well, but don't try to argue the point with a manufacturer's rep..)

I've had to replace two of four Toyo's (their top of the line touring model), because of tread seperation. One was about a quarter way through the milage warranty, the other halfway through. They are very quiet, but can't say much for reliability.

I've owned two sets of Michelin's... never had a problem with any of them.

When my Generals run out on my truck, I'm planning on replacing them with Michelin LTX's.

totally agree.... Michelin are way too overpriced...and most of the time, they really actually suck.

I like Bridgestone

I had Goodyear Eagles on my truck (SUV) and braking would be pretty poor in rain. Everytime I'd hit the brake, I swear I was hoping I wouldn't skid. With Pirelli Scorpions, it's got me feeling safe as ever. The tread design on them is great for all seasons. The A/T model was just too noisy on regular pavement.

"Best" is tricky. For my Hayabusa I have Michelin HPX's on order, cuz they are rated for 200+ MPH. The theory is that a higher rated tire is less likely to blow at lesser speed. Is that a real concern? Dunno, but I like the idea of a "tougher" tire that still performs. Car tires are more tricky.

I've recently installed Yokohama's on both of my cars, and I love them. Excellent tread wear, and low road noise. Honestly, you should check out www.tirerack.com, and search for the type of tire you're looking for, and read the reviews.

I have some Bridgestones on my truck, and Dunlops on my car. The car came with Firestones and the Dunlops are quieter but not as good in snow. The truck had Futuras on it, and the Bridgestones are quieter.

From my past experience,

Goodyears suck in the wet and are overpriced
Dunlop has great initial wet traction and good dry traction but wet traction goes down as does treadwear.
Firestone (had a set recently...forget the model # but I don't think it's made anymore...felt better than the Dunlops)

But, overall the Bridgestones I've had were the best performers.

Tire choice is definitely based on the application. I haven't had to change tires too many times, however my latest change was from the original Goodyear RS-A 195/55R15 to Yokohama Avid TR4's of the same size on my '99 Nissan Sentra SE. The difference was amazing. The Yokohama's seem to have the same grip on dry ground, better on wet roads, and they're silent compared to the noisy Goodyears. They were also cheaper by $60 each. I personally will avoid Goodyear tires for the time being.
