Whenever the dealer for whatever car you are looking at has too much inventory. I paid $16.9k for my $23k Miata. :)

Depends on the type of car. 4WD truck/SUV...springtime. RWD sports car...October/november. Basically when the particular car is least useful :p.

It really depends on the car and the current economic conditions. I got a steal on our '03 Maxima buying it in April '03. The newly redesigned '04 Maxima had hit showrooms and dealers still had a bunch of '03 Maximas to unload. My car had an msrp of $27,169 but I only paid $22,400 for it and I got 1.9% financing. Finding a loss leader can get you a really killer deal.

I might suggest the end of a quarter also. Dealers might be trying to make certain sales goals and you might get lucky. September is usually touted as a good month to buy a car because a) it is the end of a quarter and b) new models are coming out and they want to get rid of stock they've had sitting around for a while. Year end can be a good time also because dealers might be trying to meet year and sales goals.

Edit-If you are looking at cars that are generally good movers or in demand you might have a tough time negotiating a good deal on them. Infiniti G35, BMW, Mercedes or...you get the idea.

Completely depends on the car. With that being said, you're gonna get better deals or what you want at the end of the month and/or end of a quarter.

The best time to buy the car you want is at the end of its generation. I.E. Subaru Forester is coming out with a slightly revamped version this summer and dealers are getting rid of the 2005 at 1-2k below invoice. Probably more so by the end of the month. E46, IS300, etc...

Like what's been said, end of month and end of quarter as dealers try to meet sales quotas. The best combe may be the end of December, just after Christmas. No one is buying then, sales are zero, and end of month, quarter, and year quotas are coming. another time I've heard is good is February.....very cold, no one goes out car shopping so sales are very slow then.
