What is the best state in the Union?

I'm curious to see what everyone will be rolling with, I going with New Hampshire. New Hampshire has some of the best employment numbers, lowest taxes, and they have 400 or so Representatives for 1.3 million people which has a 1:3250 ratio roughly.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Government_of_New_Hampshire#Legislative_Branch

There is one Representative for about every 3,300 residents.[13] In order for the U.S. Congress to have the same representation, there would need to be approximately 93,000 Representatives.

I'm almost positive California, Washington, Colorado, Texas and Vermont will be mentioned as well for varying reasons. My home state of North Carolina is a dead end for me, no jobs in my field and they are extremely uneducated outside RTP imo.

Please, no one mention Georgia, Arizona, or West Virgina please. God knows I can't take it atm. 😀

The best state in the union is the one that secedes first. Secedes with a big middle finger pointed at DC.

NH has such good employment numbers b/c so many of them work in MA.

This. The bottom third (maybe bottom half) of the state is basically a commuter zone for Boston.

And if anyone thinks the absolute zoo that is the NH legislature is a positive, they are sadly mistaken. Think of it as goverance by a committee of all. Great unless you actually want the government to actually do something once in a while.

This is actually a positive for me. Calling the unemployment figures out "because it’s this" is highly irrelevant though.

Washington (home state) is really great but we'd be the best with a better education system, especially college. The Seattle area has only one four year university, and it doesn't serve the local residents or economy that well (they had cutbacks in the computer science department, for example, in one of the best tech industries in the country).

All the other state universities are spread out across the state in middle of nowhere towns.. makes no sense.

Once the light rail network is done ~2020-2025 I think, and if we funded an MIT-like university (I think the economy here would sustain it and attract a lot of talent), then we'd be the best. Until then I've got to think Massachusetts or somewhere is better.

Jealous much?

Why would someone be jealous of that place? Texans, 10 pounds of self hyped bullshit in a 1 pound bag.

Q. What's the best thing to come out of Texas? A. A empty greyhound bus! 😛

Q. Why do they sell so many button-fly jeans in Texas? A. Because the sheep can hear the zippers a mile away.

I love picking on our fellow "Lone Star Republic" little brother.

The "best" state depends on how you define "best", and that comes down to pretty much personal preference.

Texas would be a pretty clear #1 for me if it wasn't for the southern invasion ruining it.

Good comments but all personal preferences, I was hoping people would bring in statistical data. Like NH having a top 3 spot on places to live, most healthy, best education, lowest taxes, lowest crime, etc.

As for me, I think all of our 50 states had the potential for greatness. But as soon as any given State exceeds a population of 1 or more, too many idiots doom that US State.
