Hi everyone

I'm looking to purchase an SSD, however there are many different brands and models on the market and I'm not sure which one to buy. I would like to know what your suggestions would be.

I'm specifically looking for a SATA III SSDs with the following capacities:

60 or 64GB
120 or 128GB
240 or 256GB

Price range: below $500

Please offer a brand and a model for each capacity.

Thank you very much. :$

If price is not an option, the Samsung 840 pro is the best non-enterprise SSD you can get IMO (all things considered). If prices was an option, well, it would come down to the differences in price because the performance differences on high end SSD are pretty hard to tell in real world use.

BTW, I use intel 520 in my laptop. For a period, I had a 500gb Samsung 840 (non-pro) in there...I couldn't tell the difference in real world performance (at least for business use because that's all I use my laptop for).

If you are going to have a poll on the best SSD manufacturer you cannot leave off OCZ. Whether people like them or not if you leave them out you are only going to create yet another pointless debate and the validity of these results will be questioned by leaving off one of the major brands.

If you are not able to add another option, I would remake this thread and think more carefully about your choices.

Oh, yes I forget it. now how I can edit it?

First you need to define what you mean by "best". Is the best the fastest? The most reliable? etc..

And is price really not important? Could we recommend a $2K drive like the Intel 910?

And why do you feel compelled to post a poll for all us gear goons, product pimps, and hardware whores to sample? Don't you believe Tom?

RWDiYY

That list is purely for performance and reliability goes out the window. Thus, it is useless.

Sorry I should have clarified it in the title. I'm looking for the best SSD "brand" in all aspects that a user would consider important. Which brand would you personally choose or recommend for a SATA III SSD?

I also specified a price range in the description since $2k is way too high.
As for the Intel 910, I think it is a PCIe SSD not SATA III.

I would say it's actually a pretty good list.

The top candidates are about the top I think- what exactly do you dislike about it?

Almost forgot,

<--- in before some Crucial die hard posts garbage about superior reliability that pure BS and attempts to bully people into thinking other drives are not reliable with scare tactics.

That happens every SSD thread.

I dislike a list which ranks SSDs in terms of performance and to hell with anything else. The Corsair Performance Pro, Corsair Neutron and the Crucial m4 are all ranked as tier 3's while dodgy as fuck Sandforce is ranked at the top. Samsung's 830 is split into tier 1 and tier 2 when it has been one of the best SSD's of the last year. Plextor's M5 series isn't even on the list when it was released long before Samsung's 840 series which is on the list.

A selective list of SSDs in "speed order" isn't really any use to anybody who wants to make an informed decision taking into account cost, speed, compatibility and reliability.

You are correct sir.

Maybe instead of "Best," the criterion should be "Best Value." 🙂 For sure OCZ needs to be in the list. For me "Best Value" encompasses more than pure performance. When I'm on the road with my laptop, factors such as reliability and dependability are more important than speed.

How can Crucial be tier 4 ? Its probably the most reliable SSD along with Samsung. They belong in same bracket cuz their both super stable and well built. BTW I cancelled the write I just wanted to see what the read was...... Ive gotten 540mbps too, just no screenie....... Their firmware clearly makes their product faster and faster .......

Look at this

I've had an Adata in the desktop for almost a year now and hasn't given me any problems. I also have a used G.Skill in the laptop and it is working well under Windows 7.

Your lucky and blessed cuz A-DATA is the cheapest company.... I bet your read is not even 400mbps ,, my dads a-data 120GB does 380mbps lol and now is at 96 percent health,,,,,, gl

If price really isn't a option, I would splurge for the Intel DC S3700, a enterprise drive but price is not a concern, right. IO and latency consistency is the new paradigm for SSDs. I feel this is the "best" SSD currently present. "Best value" is another story.

Again, you are all wishy-washy here... "in all aspects that a user would consider important". Which user are you talking about?

my question is very easy.
if you are going to buy a ssd for your pc what is your choice?
Please consider the following components:
capacity and be sata III and no matter the price.
