What is the best shaving cream available?

So, what do you guys recommend? Paired with your razor of choice, what do you prefer?

Soap/water? Barbasol? Gillete with Aloe? What? (no poll added as there are too many to list)

What say you ATOT?

Oh, for the record, I normally use Gillette Sensitive Skin w/ Aloe shaving cream. I probably should've specified in the OP.

But I use Gillete sensitive skin, with the mach 3 (normal). I've heard that keeping your razor blade in a cup of vegetable oil will keep it sharp for about 10x as long. I need to try it still.

Plain old bar soap and Mach 3. It's worked for me for the 30+ years I've been shaving.(ok, the Mach 3's only been around for about 10 years, but I used the Sensor/Trac2 for years before that) I see no reason to change...except to go back to NOT shaving...(gawd I HATE shaving!)
The MAIN purpose of shaving cream is to keep your whiskers wet so they'll be easier to cut and to lightly lubricate your face so the razor will slide across the skin easier...soap provides accomplishes both of those for me.
BUT, if you want to spend $5 or $10 or even more on a fancy shaving gel, creme, whatever...go ahead. Whatever works for you.

Shampoo:
Very low surface tension, virtually no razor burn.

It's what we used to use on our surgery patients for table-to-table preps

My brother in law swears by hair conditioner. He is bald, so doesn't use shampoo or conditioner in his hair...yet still buys conditioner just to shave with in the shower.

Said he picked that up in the military...when you had to be quick in the AM.
