What is the best selling/most popular beer?

I remember reading somewhere that Guinness is the most consumed beer on a per day basis worldwide then any other beer. I was wondering what the top selling and most popular beers are internationally (not talking about the United States only).

I think Heineken is the most popular internationally as everyone knows it.

Anyone got any info or sites or links to statistics?

Also the reason this sparked my curiosity is because I was reading up on http://www.erdinger.com/ and on the site they say they produce and load into trucks over 1 million bottles per day, thats not even counting the boxed/keg beer they produce. Erdinger is the biggest wheat beer producer in the world but it is small in comparison to other beer giants such as Budweiser etc.

In the US - Bud Light

Worldwide - Budweiser

I toured the Budweiser production facility in Fairfield, CA. This is the information they provided and claimed it as factual.

I'd imagine that Guinness is the most popular beer served in a glass. Sold in cans or bottles, then Bud is definitely number one is sales which really says that us Americans have bad taste. Gimme a Guinness, Newcastle, or Sam Adams any day! Man, I think I might have to go crack open a Newcastle now...

Could that be because Budweiser tastes like shit? But hey, it's cheap and will get you hammered if you drink enough of it, so most of us Americans don't care.

I do know that Guinness produces and sells Budwesier in Ireland and parts of Europe and that it is very popular there, so I guess the taste might be different outside of the US. It tastes like piss cut with water.

Anheuser Busch is the arisen phoenix from the ashes of the attrition that resulted from prohibition. As such there was little competition and AB has been able to dominate the market. And when I say dominate I mean DOMINATE. Last I read, they give more $$ to Madison Ave. than GM. Read: they spend more on the ads than ANYONE.

And while I'm sure it goes without saying to this wonderful community of erudite people, quantity != quality. If it did than we could all deduce from Google hits alone that Jenna Jameson or Britney Spears is the most *cough* beautiful *cough* woman in the world.

From personal experience I know this much: almost every bar I go into has twice as many taps for Bud Light than anything else. The empty kegs out back of the bar are almost always a majority of Bud Light. It's sick how much Bud Light is sold.

Myself, I'd rather actually taste my beer. Although some will say that after two beers taste doesn't really factor into it. But I disagree. You just don't see AB winning many tasting awards.

Wait, I don't think those are mutually exclusive. How can you be the most popular yet not sell the most...

Why are you confused? The most popular auto maker in the world is probably Mercedes Benz but does it sell the most? One just sells more and the other has more international acclaim and better advertising.

Bud gets too much hate. Much as it is not to my personal taste, it is good beer for what it is. And before Bud and Bud Light (and before AND after the Prohibition, until ~70s), the world's best selling beer was Schaefer. Yaknow, "the one to have when you're having more than one."? And that's the nastiest most foul beer ever, worse even than Beer Beer, Schmidts, and Lucky Lager (a premium beer in that particular market segment IMO, it actually came in a bottle).

I understand what you are saying, but I still don't see how with beer there is a difference between best selling and most popular. I'd consider popular as "What percentage of bars/stores carry this brand" and it sure as heck ain't Heineken.

Budweiser. I've been told it outsells Guinness in Ireland, though I don't know how true that is.

I like a good beer, but when you are drinking quantity there is nothing better than a light beer like Bud Light as it's not incredibly filling. It's hard to drink a six-pack of Porter or Hef.

I much prefer Miller Lite as its extremely low in calories and it has more flavor than Bud Light.

Heinekin is horrible. Nasty skunky stuff. If you must bring yourself to drink Euro-trash beer, Stella or Peroni is tops.

Also, when its damn hot outside and your having a party. Light beer rules as its refreshing and crisp.

Hey now... he promised "ATOT cyber dollars" in his topic summary. I need to know how much these things are worth before I grace this thread with my opinion :)
