There happens to be no correct answer for this. Religion and/or faith is personal. It is not between you and the church, your minister, your family, your friends..or anyone/anything else. It should be between you and whatever you believe in even if it is nothing.

Children should be exposed to a variety of beliefs so that they have a good basis on which to pick from as they mature. No parent had the right to force their religion on their children.

(somebody take the soapbox away from me now please!)

The best religion is the absense of it. B/c there is no religion, there is nothing.

I'm asking a serious question and this maybe this isn't the topic to put it in but I'm just curious that those of you who don't believe in religion or don't believe in heaven/hell, isn't it sort of a depressing existence then on this earth? If this is all you have, then sure you can have fun but when you die that's it?!? To me that is horrible. I also think that when someone dies that if you don't believe in heaven and think that is the end of the person/being forever it must be the most crushing thing I can imagine. With Christianity I'm an very sad that a person has died but am also happy b/c that person is now free from suffering and pain and is in the best place imaginable. I thought of this b/c recently a friend's father died and I can only imagine what goes through the head of those who think there is nothing more.

but that's just what you think, you don't know for sure that there is a heaven, there is no proof for it. So in my little religion all good people go to heaven, and priests who molest little kids go straight to hell, I don't care how much of a relationship they have with "god". I prefer the religion of using your brain to the ones that are out there. And if there is no heaven, so what, enjoy your time here, since there is no proof of heaven it is all you can really do.

Staley8,

I hear this sentiment a lot as a justification for religion, but to me it has the opposite effect. We learn through study of the universe that nothing is permanent, not us, not the animals, the plants, the Earth, the Sun, the galaxy, all of it eventually will fade away and give way to something else. The concept of eternity in and of itself is so incomprehensible that even were the decision to have such an existence proposed (which is irrational from a scientific standpoint) would you so eagerly embrace it? Why would you want to exist forever? Death is inevitable, and to simply cease being is not that scary of a concept IMHO.

EDIT: Addressed to wrong person.
