What is the best, free program to learn how to type? It doesn't even really have to be free as long as it isn't Mavis Beacon.
 
Thanks for the typing of the dead suggestion. It's to teach my mom how to type, so I'm not sure that zombies would go over so well.
 
IRC. Well probably now one of them IM programs, since they're all the rage.

If you can find someone or some channel to talk to on IRC or IM a lot you'll learn to type fast.
 
i took a typing class my first year of HS, i didnt learn how to type any faster,

but now i can do at leat 60 words per minute, just from having used computers so much, probly not the "right" way to type. main thing is to use more than just your index fingers, try to shorten time by using your pinkys on the edge of the keyboard and your other fingers as they work torward the middle, respectively.
 
I learned how to type coding programs in BASIC in a ZX Spectrum 😀 . Going to chat rooms, bulletin boards, or just firing up your favourite word processor and start typing. All you really need to do is use all fingers on both hands, divide the keyboard in half, and simply practice, practice, practice... 😉

Yep. I took three typing classes in school over the years, never could get it to "stick". I finally learned to type when I got my own computer, I don't remember if IRC helped or if I was decent before that, but it certainly must have sped me up 😛
 
back in the day, when i was in middle school ... Mavis Beacon. I loved playing the Race Car version. The faster and more accurately i typed, the faster i went.
 
I learned to type back in the BBS days by just posting. Just show your mother how to line up her fingers correctly, and get her to start typing msgs with friends and such. Of course it'll be slow in the beginning, but her speed will eventually pick up.

Then type away 😀
