Canon i560 or better like the i865 or i965 still Canon. You just can't beat it.

High speed, great quality, separate and cheep ink tanks for each color and it is to simple to break down.

There is no better choice in a cramped college dorm room if you need to print a couple hundred pages of lecture notes before finals, or a couple of photos.

I'd recommend not buying a printer at all. Just make sure it has a floppy. Most universitys have computers and printers on every possible corner.

Save your money.

Edit: this was supposed to be quoting someone but I'm a nub.

Chad,
. Which is the cheap Canon? I have an i450 I got for $50. and it prints great. And its successor, the i455 ($80. list) is PC World magazine's 2004 World Class winner for general purpose ink jet printers. It has 'NO RIGHT' to print photos as well as it does for a simple 4-color printer.
. And quite a few have said here that their i350s work great for them and it's only $50 list.

depending on which University you go, for sure you will find campus printers where you can print for FREE! It will not be the library printers. You will be able to find some openly secret CS labs, where all the EE/CS students go.

You can also find an office somewhere that will be on some netwrok that you can print off of -- FREE

ok I'm really serious...don't buy a printer if you're going to live in a dorm. It will cost you a fortune. If you want a gazillion people getting on your computer and using your ink then go ahead and buy it.

If you tell people they can't use your printer, most likely you'll be labelled as a dick. So don't have 1 and avoid the whole issue. Just use the university computers. I have a computer at home but I hardly ever print anything on it because I can do it at the uni for free/very cheap.

You can always lock down your PC with passwords. It can be setup to go locked whenever left alone for x minutes (like when screensaver comes on). The administration at the school I'm going to soon encourages doing that, they're pretty big on security...

I'm sorta interested in a printer for college too, but I think I'll see how things go without one. I already got my English requirements out of the way in High School so I won't need to print out papers.

The unbelievably cheap generic ink looks great... my dad has been getting ripped (he does a lot of printing on an Epson Photo 785 EPX, but not a lot of photos for sure).

ArmchairAthlete, I'm not implying that people will go onto the computer without his permission when he's not there but people will most likely ask him to print notes and stuff like that for them. It's his choice so whatever.
