my brother is trying to get a prepaid phone and since he doesn't have a job yet, he can't afford to pay a monthly plan. who knows what are the best prepaid service providers in the ny area?

some services just off the top of my head are at&t(now cingular), verizon freeup, virgin mobile, etc.

look forward to hearing some good recommendations.
 
I used virgin mobile for a couple months before I got a post-college real job. never had any problems with it in the NYC area.
 
depends if he is going to use it regularly or not. Virgin if he does, tracphone if he doesnt. If he even thinks about Boost, shoot him in the head.
 
seems like you guys really like virign mobile. i always thought it was one of those side services that was not more than a gimmicky phone aimed at teenagers. well, it works for him considering virigin mobiles are pretty cheap.
