abit it7max
awesome overclocking board
asus p4b533 also not bad

asus p4pe from what ive read are also quite nice

p4 2.26b almost all were good overclockers (2.6ghz+ easily on air)
1.8a
1.6a if you can find used ones now or a store that still has a stock of them

I had a 1.8A @ 2.9 on a P4B533

I just got my EPoX 4PEA+ and am ready for a new 1.8A to put in there. Just gotta get the money for the 1.8A and we'll see how much she overclocks! :D

does it matter what the cache size is on the processor? What about the FSB...is 400 better than the 533? IS socket 478 better

keep the opinions coming...thanks so much

is all P4's sticking with the 478pin config? Cause the Xeons seem to have moved up to 603pin/604pin. Is it a requirement to move to new speed territory a new socket needs to be in place? For intel, history seems to indicate that to be the case. If so, what's the lifespan of the current 478pin socket?

400FSB may give you slightly better hopes of overclocking.. 533 may push your FSB or memory speeds too high depending on your RAM and such.

400FSB CPU's are a safer way to O/C, it's more reasonable speeds (for memory and bus speeds)

533 is faster out of the box, and will overclock, but you can VERY easily get 533 FSB from a 1.8A for example. mine was well over 600.. don't know off hand what exactly it ended up at.. somewhere around 620 FSB...

yes you want a 512kb cache size as they are northwoods
256cache=willamettes=not good overclockers

if you get some good memory you shouldn't have to worry about 533Mhz FSB being too high

P4-1.6A SL668 MALAY, L150A422-0282, w/o HSF, Overclocks to 2.4Ghz @ 1.55V rock stable
Well, that's says pretty much everything about his cpu.
It was able to do that with ASUS P4B266 mobo I currently have for sale.
Any other specific questions? ask me

is this a good chip?

let me know

I decided to take the plunge early and got my 1.8A to go in my EPoX 4PEA+

I'll be setting it up tonight, and I'll post up on my verdict. :D

different cores.. the 1.8A Northwood S478 is FAR better.. and even at stock speeds is a faster CPU than the Willamette P4 S423 @ the same clock speed.

Not played AT ALL with any tweaking, but my 2.4B C1 stepping on Asus P4PE is currently at 162 FSB for 2.916 GHz, 648 FSB, and 405 MHz RAM.

Will see how much higher i can get this, and do some tweaking once i've moved next weekend and have some time to play with it :)

I bought both a P4b533E Raid board and a p4 1.6a processor used on the for sale board and picked up a 256 mb stick of corsair cas2 ram from googlegear and have clocked my processor up to 2.56 ghz currently @ 160 FSB. Thats a 60 FSB increase over stock with memory running at 3:4 ratio, i am very near rambus speed rates. I am using a pny geforce 4 ti4200 card clocked at 300/600 and my 3dmark 2001 se scores jumped almost 4000 points from an normal 1.6a stock speed with stock video card settings.

Very, Very impressed with these scores and how fluid my games are!!
