What is the best P4 Heatsink/fan combo

I have a P4 2.4c at 3+ghz with the stock Intel HS/Fan, and it runs rather hot.....

what is the best one to get?

Most quiet?

Best combo?

the best heatsink would be the thermalright sp-94 or slk-948. Any decent fan will work on it.

The Zalman CNPS7000A-AlCu is great if you're looking for a quiet solution. At it's highest speed (2500 RPM) you can't hear it over your standard case fans.

From what I've heard the two Margalus mentioned are tops for actual cooling (noise dependant on what size fan and RPM you end up at).

I'll second both posts. High end Thermalright for absolute best cooling, Zalman 7000AlCu for mid-priced quiet cooling. SVC (out of stock until next week) has them for $30.

That's probablythe best combo when it comes to noise/performance. For the absolute best air though, throw on a 92mm Tornado

I just have to warn you that if you have a MSI 865PE Neo2-Platinum, the Zalman WILL NOT fit on it.

any 80mm or 90-92mm fan will fit. there are 4 wire clips that come with the heatsink and hold the fans on. the 2 smaller clips are used with 80mm fans, and the 2 larger clips are for 90-92mm fans.

My 3.00GHz overclocked to 3.60GHz is on a SP-94 with a 92mm Tornado.

Loud? Yes. Cool? Idle = 24-25C, Two Prime95 Max Heat Stress tests = 37C.

You havent heard loud until you hear a vantec tornado. Its rediculous.

Seriously i cant stand even being in the same room with a tornado running, its horrible. And i dont care about noise normally.

I can't even stand being in the same house as a tornado Besides, that kinda of noise is completely unnecessary with a thermalright heatsink.

Really its that bad. I have never heard that much noise out of a fan. Its like having one of those old 52x cdroms spinning at max rpms constantly. Its very very irritating. Again i use an 11k rpm fan on my cpu, and the vantec tornado is a LOT louder.

MADE UP OF SILVER WITH INFINITE SURFACE AREA.

Still u wont get the temperatures below the Room temp.

In the real world sense, check out the Fan Combo Heatsink by thermaltake, Six Long Heat pipes, Pure copper and can be equiped with 2 fans

A 5000 rpm fan doesnt sound loud if:

1) You are deaf or just hard of hearing.
2) You like the sound of hair-dryers running at full blast for hours on end.
3) Youd rather hear that than your wife.
4) You live next door to people with loud stereos.
5) You live next door to a gun range.
6) The sound to cooling ratio is acceptable to you.

Personally I run my sp-94 with a thermaltake 4000rpm speed adjustable, 3 blue led, smart case fan II (92 mm). I have another one of those 92mm fans sucking in air from the rear and blowing it over the HSF combo (set at 3000 rpm and filtered with a central air duct filter).

Redone to 1024x768. I used VuePro32 ($40- Vuepro.com). Whats your screen resolution? Im using 1280x1024 on my Samsung Syncmaster 175v LCD perfectly.
