It definitely does depend on what you're looking for. Generally, for smaller files (mp3s, for example), a client that allows you to check a sizeable number of nodes will generally work well, and multi-source downloading is less important. For large movie files, a client like eDonkey, which offers multisource downloading (even from other clients that only have a partial file) works well too.
For pr0n, eDonkey and Direct Connect both work well, but for DC, you need to start with a large amount of material, after which it's easy to get more if you're logged into the right hub.
