I'm looking at getting either a AMD 761or KT133A based board and I want to know what raid controller to look for? Promise or high point or other? Thanks.

smp, FWIW I just set up an EPoX 4SDA+ board (SiS645 chipset) w/ the High Point 372 onboard controller, and it was simpler than simple <g>. This is on a Windows 98 SE box. I had some trouble w/ 98 over the weekend and I did an install of Win XP Pro, and that was equally simple, re setting up the High Point controller.

One thing to watch for, and that's the ability of the onboard controller to act simply as an additional disk controller. I believe that certain versions of the Promise onboard solution do not allow that.

I'm not really too concerned about windows performance as I'll be using this for a Debian installation..... which brings up another question... in windows you have 4 in 1 drivers for the VIA chipsets, what about in linux? Do you need to install anything in linux to get VIA chipsets working properly?

I am not sure if those onboard IDE raid controllers are supported by linux. They might be supported as non-raid ide controllers.
