I'm looking into buying a new 19" CRT or a 17" LCD.
Budget about $500.
Use: General Gamming (a lot) and surfing (a lot)
Any suggestions?

19" Sony CPD-G420. It should be less than $500 as the G520 is around ~$600.

Yep or a Dell P991 or P992 (FD Trinitron inside).

I'd go with a NEC, personally I find the Diamontron tubes to be better then Trinitrons. Don't flame me you Sony people, I'm not saying it's words better. I just think it's a bit sharper and more crisp. Usually more expensive, but not much, and definitely worth the cash.

I don't have a model # sorry. But I think NEC uses only Diamontron tubes? correct me if I'm wrong...

I'd go for a Sony or a Mitsubishi CRT too... (or anything that uses the Trinitron or Diamondtron technologies) They worth every dollar you pay more..

THE most important thing when buying a monitor is the vendor return policy. ANY, and I repeat, ANY - monitor, regardless of manufacturer is going to have a tube it puts out now and then with problems. Some people can live with them, some cannot. You will have to decide what you can live with and what you can't live with.

I have been a fan of Trinitron picture tubes for some time, though Diamondtron tubes are excellent also if not better.
