What is the best manual toothbrush?

Get a small brush and softest bristles that you can get with flat surface, because it is gentler on the gums. And, don?t forget to floss, because flossing is important to keep your teeth/gums clean & healthy.

Get one with the rubber fingers on the side and the raised bristles in the front. The rubber fingers do magic on the gums  Your dentist will tell, and compliment you on your healthy gums.

The raised bristles in the front also help wrap around back teeth and get to hard to reach places.

My dentist told me flossing will take care of 80-90% of all dental problems.

To the OP: you're gonna have to buy a new brush every couple months anyway, so why switch

Any brush with medium to soft bristles. Electric toothbrushes are ok, but either offer good performance if used properly. Of course, if used badly/incorrectly you can still get cavities using either device.

Just use a manual brush and replace it often ( ~1month). Also floss, but do learn how to floss properly (ask your dentist to demonstrate) otherwise you can tear the crap out of your gums.

I thought electric tootbrushes are the bees knees

they are. 2 min. with your electric brush gets your teeth cleaner than 10 min. with a manual brush

Got any suggestions for any electric brushes? My wife wants one but I have no idea where to start looking for one. I've tried the cheap ones and they just suck so I want something good.
