what is the best luxury lighter ?

Why would anyone spend that much on a lighter? I don't think I've ever held onto a lighter for long enough to justify spending much money at all on it. I've been mad enough when I lost even a $10 zippo, much less a lighter worth 4 months of (my half of) the rent.

I'm quite happy with my 10-year old zippo.

I've purchased nice $100 Colibri and other brand lighters in the past and I can never get more than 1 months use out of them. Seems like all of them just won't refill properly after the 1st or 2nd time. Don't know what's up with that.

<< Good lord! I've never seen anything wrong with a $1 Bic. What a waste! >>

Well, for pipe smokers, the angled flame available from lighters by Colibiri and Corona are pretty clutch. Having a pick built right into the lighter is almost invariably a godsend as if I had a nickel for every stupid pipe nail I've lost, I'd be rich enough to buy one of those whack lighters posted above 🙂

Also, they are set up so that you don't have to have your finger so close to the flame. When you light a pipe or cigar, you often need to have the flame up for 10 seconds or more.

Zippos are OK and you can even get a pipe modification that gives you an angled flame, but you can actually taste the naptha in the lighter fluid in your smoke, so a lot of pipe/cigar smokers balk at them

One of the big problems with Colibri lighters is their piezoelectric striking mechanism. The same mechanism that makes them always light the first time makes them so easily never light at all. All it takes is a little bit of dust, pocket lint or impact to throw the filament out of whack and it stops working.
I've had my Colibri for like 18 months now, I've refilled it a number of times, and I've had no issues, although I rarely pocket carry mine. It sits by my ash tray. When I go for a walk, sometimes it makes it to my pocket...knock on wood, I've had no issues.

I have a Colibri. It looks nice, but no longer works............

Good points, Jzero. I can see paying a little bit to have a few nice, functional features built in to a lighter. I also dislike the "taste" of a Zippo. But I also happen to think that anyone drooling over a $500 "luxury" lighter just might have some wack priorities.

<< Why would anyone spend that much on a lighter? >>

Because it is the most expensive lighter in the world. duh..

<< Isn't it nice to know just how much $ you save when you don't smoke? 😀 >>

I could have smoked with a 39-cent bic or the free matches you get at the grocery store...

I bet the people who have $2000 lighters don't smoke anything :disgust:

<< anyone drooling over a $500 "luxury" lighter just might have some wack priorities. >>

For $500 it better come with a little monkey who lights my pipe and wipes my butt!

Now you're talking!

well in the matter of fact is I am lighter collector and I have dunhill lighter st dupont and caran D'ache. in my collection. and like caran d'ache light better than other two cosd It help me make alot of money on gamble . alot of guy don't believe a lighter can strike more than 35 time consecutive and it work each time. but caran D'ache like to do the trick for you. st dupont don't do tha kind of job for you nor do dundill lighter. st dupont lighter and duhill lighter are all over ebay but not caran D'ache lighter

<< alot of guy don't believe a lighter can strike more than 35 time consecutive and it work each time >>

I'd bet you my pinky my Colibri will light 35 consecutive clicks. If it fails, you get my pinky. If it works, I get your car.
And this bottle of Cristal.

Well all I can say is that if I paid that much for a caran d'ache lighter, it damn well better be able to light after 35000 consecutive strikes.

Or a lot of money.
