Yep, heading back to college next week and moving off campus, so I need your input on the best hardware modems out now. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks:D

I'll send you mine. It works really well. I have an external, and two ISA's.

Just cost of shipping!

Thats like asking "What's your favorite beer" Everyone will have their own opinion...

So here's mine.....

Any 56k USR modem that plugs into an ISA slot.

I've owned many modems before switching to DSL, and for some reason the USR ISA modems have been the most tolerent to the phone line quality issues.

If your not gaming and have a modern rig (500mhz or higher) just buy a cheap ass winmodem and get the newest driver. I was running my USR on my machine consistantly hitting 50.6 or higher and the cheap ass winmodem on my wifes computer was consistantly hitting 49.999, so don't spend too much money unless you are gaming over the net.

I agree with aircooled, any old modem will work just fine, as long as your not a gamer. If you are then I would recommend the Diamond Supra Express External Serial modems, the single greatest modem in the history of the universe. You can find them used on ebay for 30-40 bucks. Here's the ping to the isp...
