I am curious as to know which you perfer as the best hard drive manufacturer out there. From what I get, Seagate seems the best. But if there is a better one out there, let me know. External or Internal, notebook or desktop, doesn't matter.

Thanks.

It depends on your usage pattern:

7200RPM WD's usually superior in Input/Output benches

10000RPM 74Gig WD Raptor's superior in Seek time, Input/Output, Transfer Rate, and Noise Level

Seagate's 7200.7 series is usually superior in sustained Transfer Rate, and Noise Level

Hitachi's current HDs are good in both Seek Time and Input/Output.

BTW, for regular desktop usage, the more important criteria are Seek Time, Input/Output, and for many users, Noise Level.

I like everything. Samsung's drives are the best for silence while Seagate's are balanced. WD's Raptors for the gamer and Maxtors for huge fricking file transfers.

You could always go for a solid state hard drive if you have somewhere around $15,000 or so to spend..

I prefer western digitals and seagate, seagate seems to be the best at the moment, good performance, fairly quiet, and 5 year waranty. I avoid maxtor like the plauge, every maxtor/quantom I've had has died.

It seems strange though, that the older generation Seagate 7200.7 is quicker, faster, and quieter than the newer generation Seagate 7200.8
