I have decided to take the plunge and order my 1st laptop. I have no experience with lappys at all and was wondering what is currently the best graphics setup available, ie card/screen/chipset. Any advice would be apprieciated on this subject. I figure if I am going to spend the money I want to get the best available for gaming.

best at the mo are the mobility radeon 9600pro and the newer mobility radeon 9700pro
code named M10 and M11 respectively, NOTE: the 9700pro is not like its desktop counterpart, it is merely a higer performing 9600

the new ATI card out soon is the mobility radeon 9800pro...this beast has 8x1 pipe design like the desktop part, and can be configured with 256mb ram!

dell for starters, sony tend to put in the radeon IGP's which share system ram....a no no for gaming, erm people like MESH, and Rock Direct have srigs with these cards, and also Acer have some nice laptops too, acer sometimes use the mobility radeon 9000, which while is only Direct x 8 (not 9 like the 9600-700 and 800) it is still a good chip, my freinds centrion laptop from them had this chip an it played C an C generals sweetly at over 1024x768!

i livein the UK so comapies like MESH and Rock may not be available to u so try dell, i think their gaming laptops are called the XPS or somthing.....they also have interchangable graphics chips so u can upgrade in the future

here for some good reading is the preview of the mobility 9800

9800 at hot hardware

so u might wanna wait for this to arrive...its got more features than even a 9800xt!!! as it incorperates ATIS new 3dc compression technology which is only available (on desktop) to the x800 series

I concur. Either a 256MB mobility Radeon 9700 Pro or the 256MB mobility Radeon 9800 if you want to play Doom3 on your notebook.
