Yeah, well to add my two beans , I really like what the Euro Dev's are doing as a whole . They like to take more risks than the N/A devs are doing with thier shooters .

Do Episode 2 and Team Fortress 2 not count? (No they're not released yet, but October isn't that far off.)

i don't trust any game company to have a 100% working product any more. If its a game I'm really looking forward to, i'd buy it.

You are forgetting the company that invented the 3D shooter and was the first to really allow players to customize the content instead of locking it down.

This company brought shareware and playable demos out of the BBSes and into the masses.

The term "mod" was coined because of this company.

This company also regularly turns there engines into open source and gives them away to the public and competitors. Valve's Halflife (that we are all thankful for) was one of the first results of this policy.

Unlike some of the other big companies out there that buy and consume other game companies this one spawns new ones. Ion Storm, Raven, American McGee, Ritual Entertainment, Rogue, Gray Matter, Nerve, Splash Damage, Fountainhead, Splash Damage all came from this company.

They have never placed spyware on any game, they always remove the CD check in a patch shortly after release, they never implement any other copy protection beyond a key check.

They have also introduced (and again given away) the most impressive graphics technology ever seen.

Think of what the gaming world would be like if every game company acted the way this one does. Now think about who is really the best game company ever.

Were it not for starcrap I would have voted for blizzard. But that piece of crap is such a big part of their name that I can't in honesty vote for them. I thus voted for valve.

A good thing too. EA is somewhat better with both support/updates and choice of copy protection schemes than Ubi.

That's the company I was talking about in my previous.

It should win hands down.
I didn't see your post... I just looked at the poll options and replied, but kudos for thinking the same way I do :D

I was just pointing out that Valve also develops and distributes new games rather than simply distributing older titles.

For some reason I thought he was being condescending the first time I read that.

i like THQ ... they are new

otoh ... relic ...? :p
--promise to vote for them?

Relic made the Dawn of War games and Company of Heroes, those were pretty solid titles. I don't purchase games right when they are released (unless its Blizzard) but after a couple of months I picked up these games and they were fun games.

No one. Everybody produces bombs. It's just a matter of time.

Read reviews, listen to people. But buying day 1, sight unseen is dumb.

that's *only* because you are a Cynic too :p
--i will buy the next in the ES series on Day 1 ... i had so much fun with the entire Oblivion "package" after buying IT on Day 1 that it already has a $60 'credit' built in

i will buy Crysis on Day one and also Bioshock

you can wait and wait and wait ... while i have fun

i have only been *burned* by ONE game on Day One .... NWN2 ... and they eventually patched it

CoJ and Lost Planet i also got the first week they came out [mostly just to benchmark them] ... and i am NOT disappointed [actually *shocked* that Crapcom got such a mature product out the door in Lost Planet ... after my disappointment with RE-4]

there are MANY games i bought "bargain bin" and with high reviews that i HATED ... so it is a "crapshoot" no matter how much you carefully plan and read ... and wait.

STALKER is an AWESOME game i bought on Day Three ... yet many people either love it or hate it ... doesn't matter if you paid $30 or $50 for it [i paid $30]

Blizzard, easy. I hate WoW, but Warcraft/2, Diablo/2, and Starcraft/Brood war were all day 1 purchases. Now Starcraft 2!

Though, if you had put Westwood Studios pre-EA, I'd have voted for that =(

It was Firaxis for me until Sid let his own company shit all over his own game with Railroads. If you're going to redo RRT, you have to make the maps bigger, not smaller. They said they would put big maps in the second patch, but it hasn't come out yet and it doesn't look like it ever will.

After that, I pretty much wait and see on everything else.
