What is the best free software for web page development?

i have a program called 1st page it rocks. Dont know where to get it, i got it from a friend, but its better than frontpage, it doesnt insert all that MS crap into it. It's neat, if you want to create something like a table, you click table, and it puts in most of the common variables you just change them to what you want them to be, and if you want to add others you can add them into it.

You can try FrontPage Express and Netscape Composer. They're bundled in with their respective browsers. There may be some shareware editors, but I can't think of the names at the moment.

No one has used Notepad to hack pages in years. It's like not using a sewing machine because in the old days, people sewed by hand.

vi.
gimp. is ok but I also like gifc with a png hack to create pictures on the fly. talk about fun!

Was also wondering about a graphics program and have been looking at gimp.

gimp = photoshop-esque gnu software?

Basically need a graphics program to create logos and 3d letter links.

I really loved Xara3d and the simplicity of creating 3d model out of text fonts. gimp able to do somthing like that?
