What is the best Final Fantasy after 7?

I voted VIII, because I have not played much of XII yet. 10 was great.. but 8 had the gun-sword. That's just badass.

oh, and I also say VIII is better than VII. But I will also admit I didn't play much of VII either. If they remake it for PS3, I will. It'd be my first time through all the way, if I got around to finishing it since I never finish games.

Seriously 8? That was a horrid game. I played 9 was pretty cool but I got sick of it and didn't get very far. Never played any of the others.

I like Sci-fi more than fantasy.. and IX was WAY too annoying. It's kind of why I am intrigued by XIII but my gaming attention span has worsened over the years and I never get far into games, or I get somewhat far and just stop.

my list of best to ok
ff3
ff7
ff9
ff12
ff10/ 10-2

the ones not listed, just sucked and was not worth listing 😉

never played ff11 🙁

XII is legitimately the 2nd best FF after VI.

i agree.

destrekor: it would have been better if you had played FF in order when they came out, I find going back and replaying games takes a bit away from them.

I did that starting at VIII (when I got a PlayStation was when VIII was already out). Never played the old-school ones, nor did I really even play VII. So, VII would basically be new to me if they remade it with the White Engine for PS3.
I played VIII, tried IX and hated it, played X, skipped X-2 and XI (the latter for obvious reasons of it not being a true FF game), and never really got around to getting anywhere in XII as of yet. It's hard to play a game that demands so much attention during college. Between papers and all the reading my courses require, gaming is infrequent except for games that don't require too much (guitar hero and soon to be rockband are games that are perfect for my college gaming life since you can pick it up and play for a half hour and be good to go).

I was the same way for a few years back then I just sort of gave up and played CS/CS:S all the time. It's only been recently I started actually playing single player games and beating them again.

I'm going to be a douche and say 10 😀. It held my attention more than any of the others and I played it through to completion, although I've not even played 12.

btw if you looking for a good (but old) RPG chrono cross surpasses all the final fantasies.

Chrono Cross was a great game but didn't quite live up to Chrono Trigger.

i liked 1, 3(US), 5(Japan), 9, and 10 all better than 7, which i think makes me a huge anamoly in the FF world...

First, I didn't think FF8 was all that bad. It had an annoying grinding mechanic ("DRAW!") but the story kept you interested. Certainly, the increased difficulty over FF7 (which was way too easy) was welcome.

I haven't played FF9 for any extended period of time, but I liked FF10 and FF12 equally. I know it's fashionable to hate on FF10, but it was, in a lot of ways, a real work of art.

8 was the most interesting thus far after 7. Engaging combat, spell-absorbtion thingy, interactive limit break-type attacks, cool fucking sci-fi story, cool characters.

9 was boring, predictable & shallow. It has to the least complex FF since 3 or 4. The story & cutscenes were really good, but damn... the game itself had such little depth it basically played itself.

I got about 1 hour into 10 & couldn't really stand the popstar icon thing it had goin on. I can't really comment on it other than that, I hear it was really good though.

11 shouldn't really even be considered in there for obvious reasons.

12 was pretty good as far as I got into it. Very fresh combat, strategy, art direction... I actually skipped all the cutscenes.... from what I saw of the story it didn't interest me & the main hero is WAY too feminine, obnoxiously whiny. Voice-acting was shit too, but I will go through this one eventually.

Still though... #6 is where it's at.
