What is the best driver/version of CCC for overclocking?

12.2 seemed to mess up my OC and I am wondering which drivers/version of Catalyst Control Center is best to use for overclocking?

I have heard reference to 11.1 but would like to hear about your opinions/experiences.

Using an HD 6950 if that matters.

Why not just use an overclocking app such as sapphire trixx or msi afterburner?

My question maybe should start by asking:

Does the driver effect your ability to OC the GPU?

As mentioned, the latest update to 12.2 seems to have effected my OC, causing it to become slightly unstable (running the same tests and same settings that ran perfectly prior to updating caused the system to crash after the update) which made me increase the voltage slightly to keep the OC.

I guess I am not 100% clear on whether a driver update could effect the stability of the OC. Can it?

And then, if it can, what is the driver that allows for the best OC of the GPU?
