what is the best computer repair kit (best brand name)?

my sister wants to get me a birthday gift and i told her that a computer repair kit would be nice. which brand should i go with? i want a really nice kit. thanks.

A nice little multitool and a fingerlight. I have one and love it. Makes working in small tight cases a little more managable. Too abd they only come in red but its still worth it.

Man, I must be only lazy person around here. Craftsman adjustable cordless screw driver w/drill and screw tips. (of course the extension bit is given) Doesn't cost all that much but it's one of the tools that gets the most mileage and noticeable when missing or when the battery dies.

A Phillips Screwdriver, Torx Bits, and a AA MiniMag Light.

I keep a Vaco tool roll and a set of Torx inserts for a 1/4" socket right by the computer at all times. The Vaco has a handle, an extension, and about a dozen tools, six socket heads, three sizes of phillips and of flat head screwdrivers and the Torx bits fit in the 1/4" socket head. For most things that is all that is needed and the two items don't cost much. Tweezers are nice to pick up the nuts you always drop where you can't reach them. I also keep an Erem 13EB offset long nose tip cutters at hand for putting on and taking off the jumpers on MBs, HDs etc. A miniature Maglight and a 4" hand magnifier finishes out my survival kit.

Your comment suggests that you want something better than this survival kit. Check the CyberGuys catalog on pages 24 and 25. they have some computer tool kits that will make your mouth water at very reasonable prices. No kit will include the Erem 13EB long nose tip cutters. Those you will want to get separately.

I've noticed that many of the computer repair kits contain poor quality tools - bulky sockets, bad detent on the handle shafts, chrome plating that flakes off.

Many of the techs and mechanics where I work (I'm not one of them) buy Wal-mart's Popular Mechanics line of pliers, screwdrivers, etc., because they're good quality (Consumer Reports also said so) but much cheaper than Home Depot Husky or Sears Craftsman.

the one "neato" tool you should get is something i bought from wal-mart... if attached at the end of a mini-maglite, it was a fiber optic flashlight attachment for getting into the dark places etc.... its real impressive and real handy..

Radio shack has a cheap little kit for $15 or a deluxe kit for $30.

davidwiz - LOL @ Duct tape. I used a roll of it the other day to install some CAT5 cable. I tied one end of the cable to a new roll of tape and used it to throw the cable from on end of a drop ceiling to another. Worked Great!
