codec pasks are bad because they typicially install confliting codecs

all you really need is ffdshow and AC3 Filter for normal divx and xvid stuff

your gonna want Zoom Player and the Oggds, subtilt and vobsub to play ogm media files, you will need the martoska lite pack for MKV files

ffdshow with WMD is really slow... it actually lags sometimes... i've got a pentium m 1.5, 1gig of ram.....

Codec packs are like AOL, made for the ones who don't know what they are doing and functions poorly.

Codec packs can be bad if you don't know what you're doing and install every thing on it, especially on the very large packs. I recommend ac3, divx, xvid, quicktime/real alternative, and then stuff for ogm support (ogg ds, subtitle ds, vob sub)
