E7505. Wonderful features for it's time. OCing wasn't necessary for the line. Best chipset I've ever used.

Intel 865PE/875P, great chipsets and they still now support all intel cpu's including the dual cores.
Used an asus board with it and it was great, runs at an alrigh temp and stable as a rock.

865PE/875P. least amount of problems and compatibility issues.

probably built about 20 boxes using asus and abit boards with these chipsets.

I agree old intel chipsets are rock solid, NForce 4 shouldnt even be in the running though imho.

intel chipsets suck imo. i vote for NForce 2. it's rock solid and cheap plus a lot of good features.

440BX by far. Problem is, there are most likely quite a few people around in here now that are to young to remember or even have any knowledge working with the 440BX..........

I had the LX on an Abit board, unfortunately it was the first AGP standard so it didn't support GeForce256, while my friends had BX boards and played away on theirs :(

My wife is still running an Abit BM6 with a Tualatin 1.2G upgrade processor under W2K. It's amazing just how competent and speedy this machine is for everyday activities.

Oh, and it just does NOT crash.

Another vote for 440BX, my dual Slot 1 P3 system is still going strong running 2K3. I first put it together in 1998 with a single P2, I'd say it's been a pretty good chipset.

Intel BX by FAR.

Worst for me is a tie between the Intel 845abc-xyz, and the AMD 750.

NF4 has it's issues as mentioned above, and the NF3 has problems with Nvidia GART drivers. I really like the NF2 and NF1. VIA 266 was pretty solid, but after that they kind of lost steam.

Another vote to BX440

I know I am going to get flame on this but I have nothing but good luck with PT880 pro and KT600. Rock solid stuff.

I voted for nForce2, but 440BX was a close second..... and I'm not surprised at the results of the poll so far. Who voted for nForce4? I'm not saying it's junk, but best of all time??

I voted for nForce2 (and nForce 1 by extension). They threw out the conventional way of doing stuff. Soundstorm; OC'ing without messing up the PCI bus; dual-channel operation with three modules, matching or otherwise; and it made our $50 AthlonXPs into budget wonders when OC'ed :)

Having had some 440BX systems, including a dualie, I have to wonder if I've missed something speshul about them, because they weren't anything exceptional. They met expectations, I guess, but were hardly wowsy.

Not even close, 440BX. Mine's been running a P3 650E at 866MHz rock solid 24/7 since 1999. Can't beat that. i865/875 generation wasn't any slouch either. NForce 2 was a revolutoin for AMD CPUs, but that doesnt make it the best of all time.

875P for me, I missed out on the 440BX going instead from a 440LX to the i820 which was not good.

My reason for i875P was that it introduced me to sky high overclocking, a feat that I have not achieved since.
