I just switched ISPs to time warner cable and I'm totally new to cable, so I'm looking for a modem. It must be under $100. Any recommendations on cable modems you have had good experiences with? Thanks.

The most inexpensive external Ethernet that supports your type of connection.

AKA, it does not matter brand.

Does Time Warner charge you for monthly modem rental?
I had their service back in college and don't recall having to pay for it...
They had excellent service by the way; beats the shit out of Comcast.

IMHO If you purchase a modem you should do a few things first off.

1) Call your ISP and ask them which DOCSIS they support (1.0, 1.1, 2.0)
2) Shop around for DOCSIS specific modems that can work on your ISP's network
3) Call back and make sure the modem your looking into buying is supported

4) Uncap it and call it a day

If your CSR can't tell you offhand what DOCSIS type they use ask to be forwarded to their NOC (pronounced "knock" or Network Operations Crew) they should have an answer for you.

I work for a cable company, WoW!

Here is a list of supported cable modems for roadrunner. I got the list off http://help.rr.com Keep in mind, if you plan on using your own modem. If the modem ever goes bad or dies on you. Its upto you to replace it your self. I use the SB5101 modem which RR supplyed me.

Didn't TW give you a free modem? They usually do that.
