Other programs are usually front-ends for cdrecord/mkisofs.

I also use K3b a lot (partially because it auto-converts mp3 files to wav files when making a music CD; cuts out some keystrokes)

Yep check out cdrecord/mkisofs and install them. Then look for nice gui front ends for them...

I don't know what distro you use, but depending on how well the installer set up your hardware, but inorder to run a cdburner it needs to be set up to use scsi emulation.. (this is what windows does, too) Now you probably don't need to know that, but it's just a hint incase stuff doesn't work correctly...
