What is the best bank?

Right now I'm using Bank of America. If I don't use direct deposit I'm assessed a fee just for having the account, as it stands now, I pay nothing. Commerce Bank charges you a fee only if you don't use your checkcard a certain number of times per month. US Bank gives you money back on using your check card and signing and charges no fees or anything.

I'm thinking of switching to US Bank unless someone has some better ideas?

The tellers are never friendly at Bank of America either.

Washington Mutual has great customer service, a great website for all your banking needs, and a great Free Checking plan. They're all over the place here in NY.

Talk to a banking service rep. They'll waive the fee if you ask. I've had free checking with unlimited free teller visits for years now. No minimum balance either.

I wouldn't switch from BofA unless I moved out of state. The only ATMs you can find anywhere in SoCal are all BofA.

i like citi but not b/c of their service. i like the convenience of being just about anywhere in the country or world and having a citibank around.

That would be nice, my bank (employer) isn't worldwide and is in most states but they do offer 24/7 phone customer service like most Fortune 500 corporate banks.

Comerica bank has great customer service, IMO. My credit union is pretty cool too.

BOFA only owns me because:
1) They bought out my original and FAVORITE bank back in the early 90's, First Security Pacific - that was a great bank. Back in the day of 7% CD's and standard 4.75% for savings accounts.
2) Alaska Airlines chose BOFA for their airlines cc so I'm stuck with BOFA if I want AA miles.

WAMU or a local credit union. I use both.

edit: I hate BofA. About 6-7 years ago, they ripped $300 out of my account because of an ATM error (ATM posted a single withdrawal of $100 to my account 4 times). BofA refused to work with me or even check the problem and the account manager even told me (and yes I do quote), "The Bank of America is never wrong." "Cashier's check please," was my reply. :|

Bank One. Thats why they have the 'one' in their name. Because they are #1. Heck they told you right there. Why even ask?

BofA is great to me!

Lemme see what my card says...
"Customer Since 1993". :D

Wow, I had a savings account age 11!

Commerce Bank doesn't charge me anything if I don't use my check card. As long as you keep $100 in your checking, you're fine. I've never been charged anything and I have been with them for 3 years.

You might find BankRate interesting/helpful.

The only credit union nearby is Community America, and if I move out of my county I have to close all my accounts.

Community America is a huge credit union, they're in multiple states and everything.

Wachovia is the best large bank.

I love them..nice people, free Express account with direct deposit, ATM deposits post on the same day up till 4pm, you autamaitcally get the first $100
accredited to your account right away (deposit $150 at 10pm, $100 in your account instantly, rest shows up next day)

The worst bank I've had was Suntrust .. A-holes. They signed me up for some insurance crap that took $10
out of my account every month and I couldn't cancel it without closing the account,

I had Bank of America when it was Nations Bank.. nothing spectacular, but a lot of ATM's

Local banks are OK, but they don't have many ATMs and don't give check cards

Anyone ever used UMB Bank?

United Missouri Bank

They're large, even with the name that indicates they're one state only.

They do a lot of corporate type stuff.

Here at least Target and Kmart and all them use UMB for check processing and such.
