Don't feel like upgrading power supply/CPU/Ram for a video card on one of my PCs' so Id like to know a good deal on an AGP card. Thanks.

I'd probably have to go with the 6800GS line. There are probably some X800s around that price-point as well, depending on your brand preference. I don't know anything about your PSU, but chances are that you can get away with a 6800GS.

PSU is 400 watts....it just doesn't have the extra 4 pins on the ATX connector for the newest motherboards.

If you are going to stay under $200, I would def recommend this X800GTO

I think im going to go with either this card....for just a tad over 220
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814143045
or the ATI X800GTO as suggested above.... Im guessing that maybe the 6800GS may be better since some people are able to unlock them a bit and it has shader 2.0 support.
Also my current monitor only support 1280 x 1024 so I guess I can get pretty good performance out of it right at that resolution with a lot of goodies turned on in newer games?

The X800GTO unlocked anf flashed will perform as a X850XT or PE, outperforming a 6800 Ultra by a big margin, particularly at higher resolutions with lots of anti aliasing and AF. so you can imagine how far will it go against the venerable 6800GS, even if it is unlocked to 6800 Ultra levels.

Oh snap!...thank you.
Gotta wait for my ebay bid to not go through for a 7800GS....im sure someone will outbid me though.

Well, if you can win that auction for a reasonable price, got for it. :p

Most of the 7800GSs I've seen on eBay go for around 280ish though I did get mine for 250+shipping, so its possible to get them for less.

I'm kind of in the same boat as the original poster (see rigs). I want a solid cheap AGP card to tide me over until next system build (probably fall/Christmas). I have the first Antec Sonata which has a 380W Antec TruePower PS. Given my PC, will I be able to run the following cards? My worry is that I had 3 hard drives (1 first gen Raptor, 1 160gig Seagate and 1 250gig Seagate) sucking power.

What I've found at my local retailer (live in Canada so mail order is kind of a pain, these guys do 7 day cash refund, 1 year in store warranty) keep in mind Canadian dollars:

BFG Geforce 6800 GS OC 256MB AGP w/ DVI, TV-Out $249.95

eVGA e-GeForce 6800 GS 256MB AGP GDDR3 w/ DVI, TV-Out $279.95

eVGA e-GeForce 6800 GS CO Superclocked 256MB AGP GDDR3 w/ DVI, TV-Out $299.95

Sapphire Radeon X800 GTO 256MB GDDR3 AGP w/ TV-Out, DVI (OEM) $239.95

From what I've read above, the AGP version of the X800 GTO cannot be unlocked to 16 pipes (to make it an X850?). In that case does the 6800 GS make the most sense? For reference, 7800GS is about $370, don't really want to spend that.

Will I be able to run a 6800GS on my PS?

I ran the same case\PSU with a P4 @ 3.6GHz, 2 Raptors and a 250GB drive along with two optical drives and a 6800GT overclocked to Ultra speeds without any issues. I'd go with the BFG 6800GS out of those choices.

Spent the last hour and a half browsing around the web, it looks like the 6800GS is the way to go for AGP. Looks like a high % of people are able to unlock the extra 4 pipelines and shader unit. Wasn't able to find much on X800 GTO AGP's so I think I will go 6800GS.

MDE: Thanks for the advice, power shouldn't be a problem. I went on eBay looking for used cards and didn't find much, shipping is a real pain for Canada as U.S. sellers charge outrageous amounts for shipping and chance of getting hit by customs for duty (even on used, if they don't know).

For $200, the best card is probably the 6800gs. The x800/850 series is nice too, but it lacks shader model 3, which would be a smart choice to have.

Well...im winning my bid again for the 7800GS. :D $236. If I loose that, the tiger link above for the 6800GS just dropped 10 dollars to $179!! (then again its Tigerdirect :/ )
Is the PNY a good one though?...any more trouble unlocking those compared to the others?

Picked up an eVGA 6800GS CO (OC'd version, CO heatsink) for 299 Canadian (yeah I could've done better, e.g. PNY on Tigerdirect, but it's local easy to return/warranty, was worth the extra 40 bucks to me). Unlocked the extra 4 pipelines no problem, but when I unlock the vertex shader it gets artifacts. Gonna fiddle around with it some more. Very happy with the performance for the money though, playing most games at high detail. Elder Scrolls 4 is playable at 1024x768 with everything on max including HDR. Probably gonna do bloom or 4X AA instead though.

I find myself in a similar boat. My socket A mobo will be replaced in late 2006/early 2007. I'd like to upgrade my video to something that will play Oblivion better than my 126 Radeon 9600, but I don't want to spend the money for something that will ultimately be replaced in less than a year. Money is an object at this point for me. It looks as if the 6800GS may be the best bang for the buck.
