What is the "acceptable" temp operating range for FX-55?

hey guys,

I searched on AMD's website and my CPU and manual are still in the mail so I can't look. My friend got his system put together today and when I called him he was freaking out. He was telling me how terrible the retail cooler and the thermal pad thing where. I told him it isn't that bad, it is certified by AMD for normal non-overclocking usage (what we will be doing).

He was going berserk because he had a temp of about 125F at idle which is around 52C. I told him I thought that was ok and it would probably run around 70C with load. I thought that sounded normal. Also I remembered that some people reported buggy reading on Abit temp sensors too? So it could be cooler even.

Obviously I have no way to be sure if i'm right and that is why I am asking. I know the retail HSF is fine as long as it is installed correctly.

This is on Abit A8V...

Thanks,
Rhin0

Well I have the same chip running it on a MSI Neo2 Platinum and getting idle temps of 32-33
Load of around 48-49.

Im using MBM5 and it seems pretty acurate. I've noticed Cool N Quiet seems to report about 10 degrees hotter.

btw, this is all stock too, no overclocking or anything.

hmmmm well 33 to 52 is a big difference.
I'll have to double check I guess or see what mine does

I believe I read somewhere that the MAX safe temp for the FX-55 was 62C. At 125F, I would almost think that the heatsink wasnt on the core right.....

What about the case ? Is it well ventilated ?!?!?!?

That temp is a bit high to be running at default speeds. Try to check if the cooler is well inserted. Also, some boards aren't that great in the sensor of cpu temps... 🙁
